Friday's Bookbinding Class

This Friday, I'm anxious to share the next bookbinding expedition with  you.  If you're in my class please BYO:

• Pencil with eraser

• Bone folder

• 1/4" circle punch

• Wet glue (you'll use this to adhere paper to chipboard)

• Brayer to smooth out any bubbles in your book covers.

• Plastic needle (You can find these at JoAnn's.  They're usually blue and are purchased 2 to a pack.  You only need 1 needle. They have a really large eye.)

If you get to class before me, you will need to shop!  Please choose 2 pieces of paper for the front and back cover of your book.  Take it to the counter and let the sales associate know it's for my class.  That way, you won't be charged for the paper (it's part of your class fee).  Now that's the way to shop!

Depending on the paper you choose for your book covers, you may want to have a coordinating ink or pen on hand for the edges of your book cover.  I used a copper Krylon pen for the edges of my book.  You may want to BYO silver or gold or any other of your favorite colors.  A Copic Marker would probably work well for this also.

It will be no surprise . . .

If you know me, you know I'm a "foodie".  Here's the definition of a "foodie" from Wikipedia: "Although the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, foodies differ from gourmets in that gourmets are epicures of refined taste who may or may not be professionals in the food industry, whereas foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news."

That's me.  Not anywhere near a gourmet - just a plain old foodie.  So last night, I visited one of my favorite stores in St. Louis: The Kitchen Conservatory.  http://www.kitchenconservatory.com/  I love this store and have been visiting it almost since it's inception 25 years ago.  Have not only shopped there (it's a real pleasure whether you're a foodie or a gourmet) and their classes are inspiring.

Anyway, I recently found out that 3 St. Louis chefs are in the running for the 2009 James Beard Award for Best Midwest Chefs.  They are:

Gerard Craft: Niche

Josh Galliano: Monarch

Kevin Nashan: Sidney Street Cafe

That makes 3 restaurants to visit in the next 3 months.  Then will add those "foodie" experiences to my latest mini book:

 

The best part:  All three chefs teach classes at The Kitchen Conservatory!

 

Same Trail . . . Different Lens

Thought I'd try a different lens today.  Loving this lens and the reflections off the stream! Beautiful sunny day.

Just a little time out . . .

My Mom's in the hospital (2nd time this week), but this time to stay until she's well.  Took a few minutes for a time out from "hospital duty".  Today was crisp and cold but that sun felt wonderful!  And a chance to play with my new camera.

There goes the best man and the best brown dog.

We are lucky enough to live where Grant's Trail meets Clydesdale Park

and boy, do we take advantage!

 

 

One always has to be on the lookout for squirrels.
