7 Gypsies Journal

This is one of my fave 7 Gypsies books to add to.  The entire booklet measures 9.5" long X 4.5" tall and is completely stuffed with envelopes - 10 to be exact.

As I was up at my usual 3 a.m. (I know. It's getting earlier every week.), I decided to start on one of these with some map paper.  The cover ended up with a map paper from Making Memories.  The rest of the book is paper from Scrap Within Reach with miscellaneous letters, ribbon and embellishments.

The back of each envelope is covered with decorative paper

with the facing envelope flap covered in coordinating paper.

The remainder of the envelope is left blank

so that one might add writing, photos, etc.

 

 

Each envelope has a pre-stamped card inserted

so photos or more journaling

may be added.

Am I the last one to learn this envelope trick . . .

I was a room mom for 9 years and not once did I ever see this.  So I'm thinkin' I'm the last to know this envelope trick.  Stacey showed Sonja and me how to do this the other night.  She found it somewhere (sorry, didn't remember where) and thought it was on a room-mom website or something similar.

Here goes:

Start with an envelope - any size.

Seal the envelope.

Cut one end of the envelope off

to end up with the size bag you would like.

I used a decorative scissors and cut just a part of one end of the envelope.

 

Now fold 2 sealed sides and the bottom in about 1/2" to form a seam.

Burnish with bone folder.

 

Unfold and tuck your hand inside the envelope to the bottom.

Starting with the very bottom of the (now) sack,

you will invert the folds to form gussets.

Do the bottom first - it's easier that way.

Once you invert the bottom fold, you will end up with a corner that looks like this:

Fold the corner in towards the bottom and glue down.

Now invert the side folds to form side gussets:

I love those little gussets!

How old do my hands look? Yuck.

Is anyone out there a hand model?

BYO basic supplies +

• your fave color inks to edge cards.  Since these cards are bright colors, I used light shades of brown and blue inks.  Yellows + greens too please.
• Pop-dots (the spongy kind that give paper dimension)
• Glue dots
• Wet glue (we'll be adhering a tiny metal bird)
• a clip (small bulldog or similar) to temporarily hold the bottom of the rose together once glued.

Planning session . . .

The new Graphic 45 release arrived at For Keeps Sake and Timi called me to come in and see - and plan.  The Winter release is gorgeous - as we all expected.

Decided to use it for my once-a-month bookbinding class.  Don't know what I'm going to do, how it's going to look, what date it will be or how much it will cost - yet.  You'll be the first to know as soon as the designs are complete.  Here's what I do now:

April 2010:  

Something for brides, wedding showers, anniversaries or your own bridal photos. Also a good thing to give to Mom for the mother-of-the-bride photos or commemorate your Mom's own wedding.

May 2010:

Dad's day is coming up and what better paper to use than Graphic 45's Gentlemen papers!

June 2010:

A walk on the beach or a good day at the pool deserves some pics memorialized in a special way:

Another Carol Wingert Classic . . .

If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know I'm in awe of Carol Wingert.  IF I lived in Phoenix, I'd sign up for every one of her classes.  But since that's not my *hood*, I'm grateful that Carol offers her kits online on her Creatologie blog.  She's a genius when it comes to creating books.  I've learned so much from her - and besides she usually uses my favorite book colors - cream, black, red - with a lot of Graphic 45.  What's not to like.

Here's one of her kits I just completed:

You say tomatoe and I say to-mah-to . . .

Zentangle seems to be the latest craze among pen doodlers.  All I know is I used to do this when I was on the phone (behind a corporate-type desk) or in college when I was bored (not that I ever didn't pay attention you understand).

In any case, I felt the need to try my version of Zentangle this morning.  I'm saying *my version* because I have not yet gone to a class nor have I (yet)purchased the Zentangle book (available @ For Keeps Sake Scrapbook).  With Copic's in hand, a trusty Inkadinkado stamp, embossing powder and Copic papers (available at For Keeps Sake), I tried this:

Started by stamping an Inkadinkado heart in the center

of a 4"x4" Copic paper card.

Embossed the image with black embossing powder

and

started doodling with a Copic Multiliner.

You don't have to start with an image,

you can just doodle.

But since stamping is my *thing*

it gave me a good jumping off point.
