Take a look at Wendy McKee's new craft room:

She is so very organized. What impressed me is that she organizes her embellishments by color. With the exception of ribbon and paper, my embellishments are organized by type.
But I'm thinkin' that maybe organization by color may be the thing to do. When paper crafting, I usually work in color groupings, i.e., black, cream, deep red for example, and I have to go through each of these drawers (there's many more than pictured above) to find embellishments I want to add to my project.
If I did this like Wendy does:
(photo taken from Wendy's blog)
then all I would have to do is open up the "red" box and voila - embellishments at the ready.
Whatcha think? How do you organize your embellishments?
Her studio looks like it would be easy to find things. I organize by color and it is great for me. I also organize by paper by color as well. My embellishments are in clear boxes with removable dividers, one for each color. They are stacked and have a label on each. My metals are organized by copper, silver, gold, or black and are stored in jars close to my work area. My paper embellishments (light chipboard, rubons, stickers)are stored in binders by "theme" such as Holidays, Travel, Vintage, etc. My flea market finds that I use for embellishments are in boxes and are sorted by paper (dictionary pages, ads, etc), Photos, and chunky stuff.
Sounds like a mess, doesn't it? (smile)

Wow, Nancy, good topic. I am so disorganized but have read a lot of crafters sorting by colors. I tried it. Pink buttons, flowers, etc, check! Now paper. Blues, greens and multi-color floral. Now what? There are matching or coordinating pages, if one is solid, put it with color? But it's perfectly suited with the other page. I certainly would like some guidiance also.
So grateful for this question. Paper is the place I'm lacking in good organization. I've tried, but can't do my paper.
Thanks.

I am in serious need of some organization. I struggle with it every day. I keep trying but feel I am stuck in quicksand. I think organizing by color may help me. That way, when I need a pop of red I won't be limited. I can use anything in my stash that is red. I like it!!! Thanks for bringing up the subject. Keep us posted on how you do it.

I organize my papers by my favorite brands, then others by color. I have too many embellishments to organize all in 1 color box, so I have all brads organized by color (a clear divider box for each color), buttons are in little clear drawers by color and so are flowers. I have other little drawers with other embellishments that are labeled. Then I have tools organized in drawers that are labeled and are at my reach. I am in the process of organizing my ribbons on "clips" for the ones I buy by the yard, the rolls are in clear ribbon organizers and I have some strips of ribbon in a plastic organizer bag (with the holes in it) so I can take to crops. My supplies are labeled in clear boxes and stacked on shelves (within working reach), then I can take these down as I use them or need them to take to class or a crop. I'm almost finished with my stamps - so when I am, I'll have an "open house party" to see my ""studio""!
