Graphic 45's Trick or Treat Blog Hop - Day 4 . . .

This blog hop has been a blast so far.  I am so impressed with what my Team Mates have come up with for decorating their bags.  Did you know that we all started out with plain brown paper bags?  Nothing fancy . . . except for the Magic of Oz papers and embellishments.  If I had small children or grandchildren, this would be such a fun project to do with them! 

Here's my Magic of Oz bag:

I was so nervous about designing this bag.  New to the Graphic 45 Design Team, it was one of the first designs I created for them . . . and, they were showing it . . . at CHA! Talk about jitters! 

As you can see, I used one of the Graphic 45 Staples knobs, attached it to the bag and hung some of the Magic of Oz chipboard, a witches broom and Dorothy's basket from the knob.

Here's the other side with Graphic 45 Staple buttons *sewn* to the top of the bag:

 

In the spirit of Oz, this card will accompany the bag:

 

The flowers are fussy cut and popped up with Scrapbook Adhesives 3D Foam Dots.  Ruby Slipper Stickles were added to Dorothy's shoes (of course) her bow and the lion's bow.  Then I added a tag to the pocket on the front of the card:

 
Toto had to get in the picture as well!

And inside, a pop-up card with a place that holds a gift card:

Practicing, cntd . . .

I stop.  That's the problem and why I'm not satisfied with my work.  After I add the layering (see previous post) I stop when I need to go on and add more.

Taking the same card from yesterday's post, I added a ribbon, a teeny tag, a bit of lace and a brad.  To me, it's better. What do you think? 

Practicing . . .

I'm always wanting to add more layers to my work so I'm practicing today.  I have lots of layers on this but still not satisfied.  Maybe I should add buttons, ribbon, other ephemera . . .

It's raining men . . .

at Simon Says Stamp & Show challenge blog.

Not really.  Only sort of.

This week's challenge is all about men. 

 

My husband is all about the outdoors and so naturally I gravitated to an outdoor sport for my *man* project this week. Beginning with a simple piece of particle board, I painted it with a layer of Claudine Hellmuth Gesso. This not only gives the board some tooth but also allows me to use any medium on top of the gesso.  It acts like a primer.

After creating a grid pattern on a scrap piece of paper, I layered pieces of leftover scrapbook paper on top of that using Claudine's Matte Medium. In between the pieces, I scribbled in some watercolor crayons to smudge the edges and finished off with Studio 490 shelves and Art For Men rubber stamps.

I added some 7 Gypsies and Karen Foster stickers and then put some flies that Bill tied in tiny tins and added those to the mix.

Bookbinding Class Tomorrow @ For Keeps Sake . . .

• cutter and scissors
• adhesive (any kind as long as it is good for paper-to-paper)
• Crop-a-dile or other small hole punch
• I used Distress Ink for the edges of my paper cuts:  Vintage Photo or Tea Dye or Antique Linen

Anytime you have a chance to take a class from Ken Oliver . . . run to sign up! He is uber-talented, fun to work with and is so creative.  He really had me thinking of different ways to use paper in my mini books.  Loved him and can't wait until he comes back to St. Louis to teach more!

Playing along with The Altered Page . . .

The Altered Page is hosting a collaborative journey called Paper Stacks.  Considering how many journals and mini-books I have created over the years, I thought I'd play along. 

One of the books that is not in this stacks collaborative is the Graphic 45 book I just completed with Ken Oliver from Unibind.  Here's how that book turned out.

 

As you can see, it's all finished with Graphic 45's Renaissance Faire papers

and bound with the Unibind Photo Creator.

 

 

 

 

I had some photos left from my son's First Communion

(which was 20 years ago!).

Years ago I turned the corner from the traditional 12x12 format

to a format that includes mini-books capturing one event.
