Book-of-the-month workshops . . .

Each month I teach a workshop that features mini-books. These workshops are always on a Saturday and run from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.  BYO lunch as we take a break mid-day.

This month's book class is Saturday, June 23 and is a *use your stash* book. *Use your stash* means that I bring all chipboard and cardstock necessary for you to construct the book. You bring your own stash of papers and ephemera to decorate the book pages. This month, a little bonus . . . I've gathered some (almost) antique ephemera that I've collected for each of you. We work together as I show you how to put together this month's mini.  The June workshop construction is brand new to For Keeps Sake.

July's book-of-the-month workshop will take place on Saturday, July 21 and features a luggage chipboard book from FabScraps. We loved this book when we first saw it and ordered everything needed to complete this mini including all papers and embellishments. Beginning this afteroon, the sample will be at For Keeps Sake. Unfortunately, I have room for only 8 people so make your reservations as soon as possible.

New kid on the block . . .

A few days ago, I found a new group on my facebook page.  

Not sure how it got there but I LOVED the idea.

The group is called Art Abandonment.

The idea is to leave a piece of art for an unsuspecting person to find.

I believe the group was started by Michael DeMeng

and is quickly growing around the globe.

I sent out a bunch of invitations today.

Last night, we gained a new friend.  Welcome Vickie! So happy to have you on board with us.

Our CYI meet-up last night at For Keeps Sake was amazing. All those mouse traps captured some beautiful art.

Here's what we started with:

Bonnie shared a book she made using Unibind. It is going to be so appreciated! (No photo because it's a future gift.)

Karen brought in domino jewelry she's been working with. Gorgeous pieces! We all remembered the Christmas dominos Karen made last year. That Santa face - WOW! Take a look at her newest:

Mary June is back with us - YEAH! - and brought this to show us:

an altoid tin that she altered - and it is gorgeous and full of a detailed scene!

 

Then the mouse/rat trap trades began and OH MY, what ingenuity! Here's what we traded:

From Muffy: I was the lucky recipient of this one. Love the Hotel California theme and now have been singing that song in my head for 2 days.  The Eagles are one of my all-time-favorite bands. In fact, I painted the cover of one of their albums on a canvas in oil for a friend, who framed it. It's been hanging in their house for over 30 years! How appropriate: "You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!"  Meeces beware!

We had a most special guest last night. Zoie came with her Nonna, Dena.  Zoie took part in our little swap with me, creating her own altered mouse trap. I was the lucky recipient of this beauty:

I've been RAKd . . .

It's such a nice way of saying *thinking of you*. A RAK = Random Act of Kindness.  A RAK is (usually) sent through the mail, randomly, and (usually) contains little pieces of art or ephemera.

I just received one from Wendy Aspinall:

A little birdy . . .

Cleaning up this morning proved to be a bit dangerous. My intentions were good but then in a pile of papers I found this Jenni Bowlin paper called Bird-Land. It's from her Wren Collection. Every piece is adorable. 

Love those birds! So in my effort to clean, I had to stop and play mixing Spellbinders dies with these little beauties.

In addition to the Jenni Bowlin papers, I used:

No Limits . . .

It was love at first sight. The *No Limits* collection from Heidi Swapp stole my heart. Luckily, For Keeps Sake ordered the entire line and I got to play with it right away to create these:

Begin with a pack of 6 file folders all geared towards travel.  Then add paper and embellishments that are just too cool to pass up. 

The file folder above was decorated with Heidi paper.  I created a pocket and a mini-booklet to add to the pocket. A clip board was attached to the top with additional pages added for notes and photos.

 

LOVE the package of flags. I used them on each of the folders in one way or another. The folder below has a side pocket with a mini-booklet added. As a *pull* for the mini, I attached a stick airplane. The package includes an airplane, a camera and so much more. These are adorable and can be used in so many ways. I'm even thinking about getting them to use on cupcakes.

The left side of the file folder has 4 matchbook minis with more pages inside for photos or journaling. I'm not usually a sticker person but these No Limits Buzz Words are super cute (notice the *adventure*), very thin and looks more like you used a gel pen to write the word yourself. LOVE!

Another pocket on the left with more pull-out pages. I cut up a flag to use as tabs for those pages. Then added a photo spot on the right side with a file folder that holds more pages.

Using some bakers' twine and a couple of brads, I created a flip book on the left with sticker tabs from Heidi's collection. The journaling spot on the cover is from the stamp set that matches this collection. I stamped once on the front page and then again on a scrap piece of paper to cut out the banner going across the journaling spot. The right side is another pocket with two mini fold out tag booklets and a rosette on the upper right corner. The center of the rosette is No Limits Stix. I added a bit of Melissa Frances tissue paper garland to the back of the rosette.

The last folder combines two folders in one. I cut up one folder to create a flip book on the left side. Underneath the flip book is another pocket. The right side houses one of Heidi's Foto Flip Books. Super cute on the inside with page protectors for 4x6 photos and journaling pages. I glued it down on 3 sides to create another pocket and then more pages slipped behind that.
