The most amazing day . . .

But first . . . 

Been working on getting some mini-books finished. As you probably can guess, I have piles and piles of *to do* projects. (Don't we all.) Three down, many many more to go.

 

 

Even though it doesn't feel like Spring, we've been Spring cleaning both our house and Mom's. Why do we save what we do? I think I've reached an age where I'm finished with saving . . . except paper and embellishments of course ; )

Yesterday, Timi and I ventured over to Vicki M's house. Many of you know Vicki from taking classes at For Keeps Sake. Before scrapbooking/paper arts, Vicki was an accomplished miniature artist. Having designed, sculpted and painted miniatures, you can imagine how detailed she is.

There is a Steampunk magazine and knowing that Vicki is crazy for Steampunk and has designed beautiful Steampunk style things, I encouraged Vicki to enter some of her art in the call for submissions. Timi and I visited to take photos yesterday and my, oh my . . . blew us away!

I can only show you this photo as the rest will be sent to the magazine for publication. Even her computer screen looked Steampunk! What an artist! And what a pleasure it was going through this room - and her entire home!

So many new things have been happening.

Missy's altered art classes have been a HUGE success at For Keeps Sake. We are all having so much fun. She has 2 more on the horizon. Call For Keeps Sake (314) 487-8131 to sign up. Here's what I did in her last class.  I'm still trying to be *free* with altering (which is hard for a rule follower). Each person's turned out a little different in class. 

And our little ART group (4th Friday of every month and it's free!) has grown. We work on whatever altered art project we want and gain ideas and insight from each other. It's a wonderful group of sharing artists! I started this project last Friday night and completed it at home. Actually, I'm living with it to see if it's complete.

Another Heather Jacob inspiration . . .

Channeling my inner Heather Jacob . . .

It's no secret that I love everything that Heather Jacob creates.  She is an amazing artist and a true inspiration. There's just one problem . . . she lives in Australia. So stalking her here in the U.S. is near impossible. So I cyber-stalk her.

Sometimes, life gets in the way of creating and the thoughts/ideas just don't happen quite as easily as other times. That's when I turn to bookmarks that inspire me. This morning I ran across this bookmark of Heather's work:

and decided I would use a recent photo of Beau and his new dog Leroy. Following some (most) of Heather's layout ideas, I created this:

The layout I created still needs some things like a title and maybe more embellishments. It's much plainer than Heathers, but I so enjoyed using her ideas and working with some new things I've recently acquired:

• Both the gold metal pieces and Imaginarium chipboard leaves were first Gesso'd and then painted with Viva Silks and Twinkling H2O's.
• The doily is a Spellbinders die
• You'll notice on Heather's designs that she stitches a lot. I love that look but am horrible with a sewing machine. Instead, I faux stitched by using a Tim Holtz ruler, a paper piercer and some ink. The *dots* were connected with a Copic multiliner.

I loved incorporating stamping, inking and painting onto a layout. Now to look for letters for a title and maybe some other embellishments.
